Depending on the person’s needs, a stay can include companion care, personal care assistance, medication reminders, mobility assistance, and overnight support. What is included is agreed before the stay begins.

No. A respite stay provides non-medical, everyday personal support. It is not nursing or medical care. Health questions, medication changes, and treatment decisions stay with your loved one’s healthcare provider.

Reminders follow the schedule already set by your loved one’s healthcare provider. Families provide a current medication list and instructions. Staff do not change medications, doses, or timing.

You’ll go over this before the stay. Families usually plan for current medications and instructions, clothing, toiletries, any mobility equipment used at home, and a few familiar personal items.

Ask when you call. You’ll be told where your loved one would stay before anything is booked, so you can plan drop-off and pick-up, and ask about visiting beforehand.
